Galaxy S7 Edge: release date, price, specs and rumors

Until recently, no one was certain whether or not the Galaxy S7 would be accompanied by a Galaxy S7 Edge variant, but now model numbers have appeared for both versions. It also seems the S7 will see Samsung using two different chipsets in the same Galaxy flagship once more. Read on for all the Galaxy S7 Edge release date, price, specs and features we know so far.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge release date

Traditionally, the Galaxy devices have debuted at MWC in late February. MWC 2016 takes place between February 22 and 25 in Barcelona, but all reports are indicating the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge release date will come a month earlier, at a standalone event. Other reports are claiming that AT&T is already testing the S7 and S7 Edge, adding credibility to the accelerated launch rumor.
The Galaxy S7 Edge may appear at a private Samsung event, not MWC 2016.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge price

The Galaxy S7 Edge price is a hot topic right now, with plenty of people justifiably claiming next year's flagship will cost even more than this year's. For now, it's impossible to say, but if Samsung has been feeling empowered by how well the Galaxy S6 Edge has sold, despite its higher price, it's possible the S7 Edge price might be marginally higher.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge specs

The latest information on the Galaxy S7 Edge specs states that Samsung will use two processors for its S7 line: an Exynos and a Snapdragon. This is how Samsung had previously managed the massive demand for its flagship devices, until last year when problems with the Snapdragon 810 forced Samsung to only use its own Exynos 7420 chipset in the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.
The new Snapdragon 820 is reportedly meeting Samsung's requirements however, so Qualcomm has been let in to share the workload once again. Considering the success of the Exynos 7420 , it's a little surprising that Samsung wouldn't just continue to produce all the chipsets itself, although the foundries producing the Snapdragon 820 are actually Samsung's.
A smaller module size might mean the end of the camera bump.

We also know that Samsung is likely to use its new BRITECELL sensor technology in the Galaxy S7 Edge camera. Samsung presented the new sensor at an investor conference recently but did not confirm it will be the sensor in the S7 Edge.
Samsung did say that BRITECELL has a smaller, one-micron pixel size and is therefore not the larger 0.5-inch sensor that's rumored to also be in production. The smaller sensor size will mean a 20 MP BRITECELL sensor will reduce module height by 17 percent. Low light sensitivity at 1.0 µm should also ensure solid low light performance, supported by Samsung's WDR Technology and Phase-Detection Auto-Focus (PDAF).
Samsung has presented details of its 20 MP BRITECELL sensor technology.

If AT&T is already testing the Galaxy S7 Edge, that also means there's a workable ROM on it. That means Android 6.0 Marshmallow and all-new Edge features that we're unlikely to find out about for weeks. We'll just have to wait to see what the new Edge features will entail.
Apart from the camera details covered above, the Galaxy S7 Edge is more than likely to deliver some improved fast-charging technology too. Considering Samsung has already produced fast-charging wireless technology, it's safe to say that will be present on the S7 Edge, along with some improvements to speed and battery life. We also know there's a weird keyboard cover (as shown in the photo below) being made for both Galaxy S7 variants.
The keyboard cover will be made for the Galaxy S7 Edge

The next Galaxy will reportedly also come in two size options: a regular Galaxy S7 at 5.2 inches and a Galaxy S7 Edge at 5.8 inches. If this claim turns out to be true, this means there wouldn't be a Galaxy S7 Edge+.
